{into the mouth of babes} Peas, Kale, Pineapple… Oh My!

Okay. I swear these posts aren’t an excuse to post ridonculously adorable pics of the Hungry Baby. It’s just—have you tried taking an appetizing photo of green puree? Not so easy.

It’s been two weeks since we started solids and the Hungry Baby has already tried something like 13 foods. On most days, he eats twice: breakfast and dinner with his Hungry Brother. And, as I explained earlier, I either puree what the rest of us are eating, mash up something ripe that’s on hand, or steam and puree select veggies from our meal in my Beaba Babycook (more on that in a minute). Here’s a quick run down of what he’s eaten (and what we were eating) so far:

  • Mango (we ate some for breakfast)
  • Banana plain, mixed with cinnamon & mixed with mango (we also ate banana for breakfast each time)
  • Pineapple mixed with plain whole milk yogurt (we ate the same for breakfast)
  • Apple sauce (Hungry Brother had some for breakfast, too)
  • Oatmeal with banana and cinnamon (we ate the same for breakfast)
  • Sweet potato mixed with apple sauce & plain whole milk yogurt (Hungry Brother had sweet potato mash with dinner)
  • Pears with cardamom (Hungry Brother had pear for dessert)
  • Avocado (we used some in a salad)
  • Kale with peas and pecorino (I used the kale and pecorino to make Kale Risotto for the rest of us; I should have just given him risotto—next time!)
  • Roasted asparagus and edamame with a squirt of lemon (we ate Sesame Noodles with edamame and a side of roasted asparagus)

Not bad, huh?!

And I cannot sign off without telling you about how much I LOVE my Beaba Babycook.

I am not usually one for speciality kitchen gadgets (okay, well not ones geared towards baby food, which you make for such a short time), but this thing has made life so. much. EASIER. If you have a mini-chop that you can easily keep on the kitchen counter for the few months that you’re pureeing food, then you may not want this. But I do because this quick steams, too, all in one shot. I can either throw a tiny portion of our dinner in the processor or throw some fruit or veg that needs cooking in the steamer basked for 10 before pureeing in the same contraption. And the whole thing cleans up in a snap. Love it!
